Graduate Student Government Travel Grant

Overview
The aim of the Purdue Graduate Student Government (PGSG) Travel Grant is to assist Purdue University graduate students in attending technical conferences which in turn will help to develop graduate students professionally and augment the overall qua

Because the number of applications varies each semester and the total budget for Travel Grant varies year to year, the number and amount of awards will not determined until after all applications have been received. Grants are typically about $200 and are awarded to 20-40% of applicants. A few exceptional applications may receive slightly larger award amounts if funds are available. This year, $12,200 was awarded in grants.

Deadline
For travel between 03/01/09 - 08/31/09, the Spring 2009 deadline is Thursday, March 5, 2009 at 5:00 pm. No exceptions.

If you would like to link to the IE GSO calendar using Google calendar, you can search for "Purdue IE GSO" in the "Search Public Calendars" option. Then add the "IE Graduate Students" calendar. This calendar will be updated regularly.

Applications available online

Anyone interested in applying for the travel grant or mentoring program can now download the documents.

Meeting and Social Today

Today is the first IE GSO meeting of the semester. It will be at 4:30 pm in Grissom 280. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Following the meeting will be a social at Jake's. Non-alcoholic drinks and appetizers will be provided.

Many announcements will be made in today's meeting covering topics such as mentoring, travel grants, and sporting event against Chemical Engineering.

India Internship for this Summer - Callout on Friday

"The School of Industrial Engineering will provide some modest travel support for any students who are selected to participate in this program. The exact amount will depend on how many students are chosen. The CEO of TVS has specifically requested that Industrial Engineering students be encouraged to participate. Please let Kirsty Mac Coll know if you are applying. I do encourage anyone with interest to attend the information session. Please note that the experience results in academic course credit."

This is a joint Management-Engineering program. The internship provides all local cost in India (lodging and transportation) as a gift from Purdue IE alum, Venu Srinivasan (chairman of the board of TVS Motor Co.). Lunch with the IE Advisory Council

If you are interested in dining with the Industrial Engineering Advisory Council on Friday, Jan 23rd from 12 pm - 1 pm (could be delayed by 15 to 30 minutes if the meetings are running late) in the Lafayette Room in the Purdue Memorial Union, please respond to ajbenedi@purdue.edu by 5 pm Thursday Jan 15th with the below information completed.

Mentoring
Mentoring Opportunities – 2 upper level students for each research area (8 mentors in total).
Mentors must have attended Purdue as a graduate student for more than one year.
Mentors will receive 250 business cards.
Mentors and Mentees will have a budget of $80 for the academic year to be spent on food and drinks (non-alcoholic).
