The IE graduate students have an opportunity to go on a tour at a manufacturing facility in Lafayette. The company is Voest Alpine - http://www.voestalpine.com/ag/en.html.
Facility tour is generally 30 minutes to 1 hour depending upon questions, etc. They can also show a presentation on what they do prior to the tour. This is a manufacturing facility of steel tubular
components for the automotive industry (anti-vibrational items, seat belt pretensioners, etc.).
Product portfolio includes:
Tubular components for: passenger airbag system, pyrotechnic seat belt pretensioners, exhaust components, air suspension systems
Precision tubes for: gearbox axles, shock absorber tubes, fuel
injection lines, piston bolts, pedal systems
