MGL Tour

Tuesday, March 24th
4:30 pm
Meet outside MGL 1307

Michael Golden Laboratories (MGL) hosts the manufacturing facilities in the School of Industrial Engineering. An overview is provided of the support capability with regard to conventional (turning, milling, grinding, etc) and non-conventional processing (electrical discharge machining, prototyping, etc). Metrology capabilities at the macro/micro/nano length scales will also be reviewed.

A brief review of the research in Prof Chandrasekar's lab will also be provided, which includes a broad collection of topics ranging from fundamental studies of interfacial contact in manufacturing processes to applied research directed at dramatically improving the speed of machining operations. Finally, an overview of a technology start-up company (M4 Sciences - http://www.m4sciences.com), that was founded by an IE PhD student (James Mann) will be provided.
